A gloriously sunny day in Rye today and with more on the way this week it is just what the doctor ordered. And that's not the end of it, as Instant Sunshine are booked to play Rye Arts Festival on Tuesday 18th September.
For younger readers, Instant Sunshine isn't a brand of highly-sugared, fruit-flavoured soft drink that sends kids loopy and rots their teeth. Instant Sunshine are described as comic musical cabaret and had a lot of airplay on Radio 4 in the '80s, with their witty songs based on current affairs. They're still going strong - the three original members who first gigged together in 1967!
Their longevity might be due to the fact that they're talented musicians and songwriters, but also because they moonlight as doctors, which keeps them grounded.
And while we're talking about medicos - this year's Festival has plenty of doctors with alternative careers/interests.
On 29th September Professor Robert Winston is giving a talk in the afternoon before the opera Cops Fan Tutte is being performed at Rye College. The link? He's a great opera fan and is the president of Euphonia |works, the company that is performing the opera.
And on Tuesday 25th September, the dark side of British country music, Hank Wangford is playing with his band of Lost Cowboys at the Community Centre. Hank, when he isn't playing country, has been a consultant gynaecologist for many years!
