Just got back from supporting friends doing Trailwalker 2012 - a 100km or 60 miles charity walk along the South Downs Way from Petersfield to Brighton in a maximum 30 hours! The conditions were horrendous - raining constantly through the day and night and thick mud underfoot for mile after mile, so huge credit to the 1,500 plus who completed the ordeal at Brighton Racecourse and well done for collectively raising over £1million for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
Rye Arts Festival, between 15th and 30th September 2012, is serving up a variety of interesting walking opportunities, but nothing as nasty as Trailwalker.
The emphasis on Rye Arts Festival's walks is fun, interest and a gentle pace. We have a couple of World War II Walks, which look at the impact on the town in terms of buildings and people's stories. There will also be a number of walks in neighbouring Winchelsea exploring some of the town's many cellars, as it was built quite literally on the medieval wine trade. And a walk to Camber Castle through the Nature Reserve combines history and architecture with wildlife.
For more information on these walks and other events click on Rye Arts Festival.
And if you think you could get together a team of four to take part in next year's 100km, 30-hour charity walk on the South Downs click on Trailwalker.
If you don't fancy the idea of walking for that long, why not run it? This year, a team of four Gurkhas did just that, completing the course in just 10 hours 40 minutes!
