Green Day in Rye Opera - Cosi Fan Tutte

Soprano Natasha Day, who starred in last year's inaugural opera at Rye Arts Festival, is returning on 29th September to sing in Cosi Fan Tutte.

The classic Mozart opera is another rare treat for the Rye Arts Festival and is being produced by Euphonia Works who wowed the Rye audience last year with Gluck's Iphigenie en Tauride.

Natasha, who is currently in Poland for a singing competition in Warsaw, is taking the role of Fiordiligi, one of a pair of sisters who are tricked by their (disguised) lovers into showing their infidelity. A comic plot line, straight from Shakespeare, has plenty of unintended consequences but all falls together in the end.

The translation of Cosi fan tutte is 'Thus do all [women]' but is often rendered as 'Women are like that'. The President of Euphonia Works, Professor Robert Winston, will be giving a talk at 3.00pm earlier in the day, in which he will explore this seemingly misogynistic view of women.

For more information about the opera click on Rye Arts Festival, where details of the full programme of events between 15th and 30th September can be found.
