Stringing Along with Rye's Awesome Foursome

The Piatti Quartet (seen rehearsing in St Mary's, right, with pianist Clare Hammond)) the Festival's quartet in residence, have already three performed three concerts and are about to do a workshop for the kids of Rye Primary in a few hours time.

Having started their week-long stay at Ryue Arts Festival on saturday evening with a concert in Iden church, on Sunday evening they did 'Beer & Beethoven' - a free gig in the Queens Head in Ladgate, which went down a storm with the regulars, as did the beer with classical music fans who were (re)introduced to pubs!

The awesome foursome than did an open rehearsal in the Methodist Church the next morning, where there was a queue of people waiting for them to go through their paces. A fabulous concert with pianist Clare Hammond in the evening followed.

The Piatti Quartet are going to be joined by Rebecca Gilliver on cello and Adam Newman on Viola on Thursday evening in St Mary's as they grow into a quintet and then sextet as the celebrate music for strings! Tickets are available from the Box Office (01797 224442 or www.ryeartsfestival.co.uk) or on the door as are some still for the finale on Saturday 27th September also at 7.30pm in St Mary's Church. This concert will feature a world premiere of a piece by composer Joseph Phibbs, who will join the Quartet for a pre-concert talk at 6.30pm in the church to which all ticket holders are most welcome.
